The Department was established in the academic year 1976/1977. The main purpose of the program is to prepare individuals for professional careers in the various fields of civil engineering. This preparation is accomplished through a well-designed curriculum in various disciplines of civil engineering.
The curriculum provides a broad integrated education that serves as the basis for successful professional career. The curriculum also provides sound basis for continued professional development through informal studies, continuing education, and graduate study in specialized engineering fields.
The Department has 28 faculty members in various fields. It is the largest department in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and it includes five divisions:
Structural Engineering
Transportation Engineering
Environmental and water Resources Engineering
Geotechnical Engineering
Construction Management
The Department has the following laboratories: Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics, Environmental Engineering, Surveying, Photogrammetry, Highway Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Building Material & Heavy Structures. The Department graduates are employed by private industry as well as local, national and regional governmental and non-governmental agencies.
